Ingredients

  • 1 lb Jennie-O Spicy Turkey Sausage
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced ,diced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper diced
  • 1 orange bell pepper diced
  • 1 medium white onion diced
  • 2 tbsp garlic powder
  • 3 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1-2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1-2 tbsp slap ya mama
  • 3 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1-2 tbsp Creole seasoning used Moes Magic Dust
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • tbsp minced garlic  (from a jar)
  • ¼  cup water
  • 2 tsp garlic salt
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 5-6 cups long-grain white rice cooked

Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and Jennie-O Spicy Turkey Sausage. Cook, breaking the meat apart with a wooden spoon, until the meat is fully browned and cooked through.
  • Add the diced red, yellow, and orange bell peppers along with the diced white onion to the cooked meat. Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables begin to soften. Stir in 1½ tablespoons of minced garlic (from a jar)and cook for another 30–60 seconds, just until fragrant.
  • Sprinkle in the garlic powder, smoked paprika, Cajun seasoning, Slap Ya Mama seasoning, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, cayenne pepper, and Creole seasoning. Stir until the meat and vegetables are evenly coated with the seasonings.
  • Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and ¼ cups of water. Add the 3 bay leaves, stir everything together, then cover and reduce the heat to low. Let the mixture simmer for 5–6 minutes so the flavors can meld together.
  • Remove the bay leaves. Fold the cooked long-grain white rice into the meat mixture until every grain is coated in the flavorful Cajun seasoning.
  • Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

The Fancy Mom Tip 💋

  • Don't cook your rice all the way through. Leave it with a little bite (al dente). As it finishes cooking in the meat mixture, it will soak up all of those delicious Cajun juices without turning gummy.
  • Taste as you go! Every Cajun seasoning blend is a little different, so adjust the spice and salt to your family's taste.
  • Remove the bay leaves before folding in the rice.
  • This Cajun Dirty Rice freezes beautifully, making it perfect for meal prep or busy weeknights.
  • Serve it with warm Southern cornbread for the ultimate comfort meal.
