Notes
đ The Fancy Mom Tips
-
Cold ingredients are everything! Make sure your butter, shortening, and buttermilk stay cold until you're ready to use them. This helps create tender, flaky biscuits.
-
Don't overwork your dough! The more you handle biscuit dough, the tougher your biscuits can become. Mix just until everything comes together.
-
Fold for those beautiful layers! Folding the dough 2â3 times creates those gorgeous flaky layers that pull apart when your biscuits are warm.
-
Never twist your biscuit cutter! Press straight down and lift straight up. Twisting can seal the edges and prevent your biscuits from rising properly.
-
Heavy whipping cream is the secret to beautiful tops! Brush a thin layer over each biscuit before baking for a rich, golden finish.
-
Don't skip the melted butter! As soon as your biscuits come out of the oven, brush them with melted butter for that extra buttery Southern goodness.
-
Make them your own! Serve these biscuits with homemade honey butter, your favorite jam, sausage gravy, or even crispy chicken for a delicious Southern breakfast.
- You don't have to use a cast-iron skilled any baking dish will do.
